Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo has won the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking a historic achievement for the Philippines. Yulo’s score of 15.000 narrowly defeated Tokyo Olympic champion Artem Dolgopyat by 0.034 points.
Yulo’s victory has generated widespread excitement in the Philippines. In recognition of his achievement, the government will award him 3 million pesos and a two-bedroom apartment in Taguig City.
Starting his gymnastics training at age 7, Yulo moved to Japan at 16 for better training. He has previously won multiple gold medals in World Championships, Asian Championships, and the Southeast Asian Games.
