Pegula, who lost the first set 1-6 and found herself trailing in the second, managed to mount an impressive comeback. “She destroyed me. I almost cried on the court,” Pegula said, reflecting on how close she came to losing before turning the match in her favor.
Muchova’s 40 unforced errors were the key turning point, allowing Pegula to regain control and secure her place in the final. Pegula will now face Aryna Sabalenka, the player who beat her in the Cincinnati final, but this time Pegula is ready for redemption. “This is a revenge opportunity, but I know it will be tough.”
The final promises to be an exciting showdown as Pegula seeks her first Grand Slam title.
