In a historic upset at the 2024 Paris Olympics, China’s men’s 4x100m medley relay team claimed the gold medal, putting an end to Team USA’s 40-year reign in this event. The American team had been aiming for an 11th consecutive Olympic title in the men’s medley relay but was denied victory as the Chinese swimmers outperformed them in a thrilling race.

The Chinese team, consisting of Xu Jiayu (backstroke), Qin Haiyang (breaststroke), Sun Jiajun (butterfly), and Pan Zhanle (freestyle), delivered a stunning performance, finishing with a time of 3:27.46. Despite the USA leading twice during the race, China managed to pull ahead each time, ultimately securing the gold.

The USA, finishing close behind with a time of 3:28.01, took home the silver medal, while the host nation, France, claimed the bronze with a time of 3:28.38.
