Yusuf Dikec, a 51-year-old shooter from Turkey, has become a viral sensation for his nonchalant style at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On July 30, Dikec and his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan won silver in the mixed team 10m air pistol event, Turkey’s first shooting medal in the Olympics.
A viral image shows Dikec casually shooting with one hand in his pocket, wearing a T-shirt and normal glasses, a stark contrast to the highly equipped competitors like South Korea’s Kim Yeji, who also won silver.
Dikec, who has competed in every Summer Olympics since 2008, explained his unique style to Radyo Gol: “I shoot with both eyes open, which is different from the norm. This approach makes me feel more balanced and focused.”
Tarhan, his partner, also embraced a casual style, shooting with one hand in her pocket. Despite this laid-back attitude, Dikec is determined to compete for gold in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. “I hope to win a gold medal next time,” he said.
